I partner with both businesses and individuals to help solve their tax challenges. My goal is always to deliver cost-effective solutions that help navigate the increasingly complex international tax landscape

I am an employment tax and tax investigations specialist with nearly 15 years of experience advising clients across all sectors with the tax challenges associated with engaging their workforce. I have a particular interest in the cross-border aspects of both employment taxes and resolving tax disputes, including facilitating negotiations between global tax authorities.

I joined Blick Rothenberg in 2023, having previously lead the UK employment tax dispute practice at a Big-4 firm where I worked with a mixture of high-net worth individuals and employers managing their interactions with HMRC. I am passionate about improving the UK tax system and regularly contribute to forums and consultations with HMRC and HM Treasury.

I’ve always found employment to be the most fascinating of all the main UK taxes given the huge changes we have seen in this area in the last decade. From landmark case law and legislation in areas such as disguised remuneration through to the rise of the location agnostic ‘remote worker’, the scope for complex challenges and the associated disputes between employers, tax authorities, employees and contractors has never been greater. At the same time, HMRC’s increased powers to investigate and penalise underpaid taxes through initiatives such as ‘failure to correct’ penalties, extended offshore time limits and the disguised remuneration loan charge has created a high-risk landscape for taxpayers which I enjoy helping them manage effectively.

I am unusual in that I have typically maintained a client portfolio including both businesses and private individuals and find that sitting on ‘both sides of the fence’ really helps in putting myself in a client’s shoes.

When not at my desk with my tax books, I spend much of my free time in my role as a joint Group Scout Leader of a large and successful group of Scouts in Surrey.
