The role

Our Financial Services Team

Our Financial Services team (formerly Rees Pollock) has a deep knowledge of Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) regulations, sector-specific tax issues and structuring considerations. The team work with approximately 250 regulated clients. They provide hedge fund managers, private equity and venture capital managers, wealth managers and advisory firms, with advice to help them establish and grow their business.

About the role

Our ACA Financial Services Audit Graduate Scheme based within our Financial Services team part of the wider Audit, Accounting and Outsourcing department.

As a Trainee Chartered Accountant you will assist with the preparation of financial statements for Financial Services clients from trial balance stage. You will be working and collaborating with other members of team in order to build strong working relationships. You will provide assistance on statutory audits as you continue to develop your knowledge. As your confidence grows so will your project management skills as you work to meet deadlines and budget constraints for clients.  

Our ACA Graduate Scheme forms part of a level 7 apprenticeship programme. We have created a first-class training and development programme to set you up for success providing the support you need to complete the ACA qualification. Alongside your day to day work you will attend college and/or study days, mentoring and will be assigned a designated buddy who will help you settle into life at the firm.

This role will start in September 2024.

What does the role entail?

Our placement year provides a wide range of practical experience within both UK and US tax sectors with structured training.

Successful candidates could be invited to return on our graduate scheme, on which we provide the opportunity to obtain professional tax qualifications. Successful candidates will be supported throughout their professional studies towards the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) qualification in the UK and the Enrolled Agent (EA) qualification in the US, as well as potentially achieving Chartered Taxation Advisor (CTA) status.

Once your initial training is completed, you will be introduced to a variety of client issues, working within a tight-knit team to prepare their tax returns and advise them on domestic and international tax matters. Our goal is to provide all of our graduates with the expertise that will help expatriates, high-profile businesses, entrepreneurs and private clients comprehend the complex issues of international taxation.

Our Transatlantic Tax Graduate Scheme combines a wide range of practical experience within both UK and US tax sectors with structured training, as well as providing successful applicants with the opportunity to obtain professional tax qualifications. We pay for all courses, exam fees and study leave for first sittings. The company’s commitment to our graduates’ development shows in the consistently high pass rates our students achieve in the examinations. This is something we are very proud of. Our success lies first in the process of selection and then in providing the best possible tuition, both in practical and theoretical terms.

A trainee’s day-to-day work at Blick Rothenberg is varied but always consists of working within a team, providing support to managers, senior managers and partners within the Private Client Tax department. There will be early responsibility as you work with a wide range of clients from multinational businesses to entrepreneurs. The role will consist of corresponding with clients on a daily basis, assisting the partners and senior managers with UK and international tax advisory projects, and attending client meetings and conference calls with senior team members. The role will therefore suit an ambitious candidate with a desire to further their education with a professional qualification whilst receiving on the job training with a top London practice.

The role

What does the role entail?

In this role you will work with UK clients in providing a dedicated outsourcing service to support businesses with their day-to-day accounting needs. Clients include UK start-up businesses without in-house accounting expertise to more established SMEs seeking additional administrative support.

You will be involved in tasks such as bookkeeping, preparation of management accounts, account reconciliation, completion of VAT returns and reconciliation, payroll processing, arranging bank payments and liaising with the wider accounts team. You could also manage ad hoc queries from clients and work directly with HMRC.

What does the role entail?

Our Audit apprenticeship is based within our Audit, Accounting and Outsourcing team. This team provide services to a wide range of clients, from business owners and stakeholders of international groups to family and smaller privately-owned businesses including those with private equity backing.

Working within our audit and accounts teams, you will get exposure to all facets of preparing and auditing year-end financial statements as well as preparing the related corporation tax returns. You will gain a genuine mix of experience across different business sectors and from large international corporates to small and medium sized UK businesses.

You will study the Level 4 Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business (ICAEW CFAB) qualification on this apprenticeship.The certificate consists of the first six exam modules of the ACA qualification but is globally recognised as a stand-alone qualification. Post completing the certificate, we would expect our trainees to progress through to the full ACA training programme to qualify as Chartered Accountants.

The Corporate Tax team advise clients on; tax compliance, implications of commercial transactions, customs duties, tax relief and exemptions, stamp duty, tax legislation, domestic and internal tax planning and tax risk.

Studying for the professional examinations

Our trainees attend integrated link courses run by a leading financial training company in London to prepare them for their professional examinations. The courses combine periods of full time study and progress examinations with a home study element. The tutors liaise with us on a regular basis, allowing us to maintain an active interest in performance. Successful candidates will be supported throughout their professional studies towards the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) qualification and achieving Chartered Taxation Advisor (CTA) status.

We pay for all courses, exam fees and study leave for first sittings. The role

Financial Services Team

Our Financial Services team (formerly Rees Pollock) has a deep knowledge of Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) regulations, sector-specific tax issues and structuring considerations. The team work with approximately 250 regulated clients. They provide hedge fund managers, private equity and venture capital managers, wealth managers and advisory firms, with advice to help them establish and grow their business.

We can advise regulated firms on legal structures regarding the relationships between the funds they manage and the ways that the managers are remunerated. Equally, we know that the personal tax of those managers is often complex due to these same remuneration policies, and we are well placed to advise on this too.

What does the role entail?

This Apprenticeship will see you supporting clients from the Financial Services industry with Outsourced Accountancy tasks such as bookkeeping, preparation of management accounts, account reconciliation, completion of VAT returns and reconciliation, payroll processing, arranging bank payments and liaising with the wider accounts team. You could also manage ad hoc queries from clients and work directly with HMRC.

As a Global Mobility trainee, you will work across the following teams which form the wider Global Mobility Team:

Employment Tax

As an Assistant, your role will be to support our clients (predominantly small to medium enterprises) with tax responsibilities related to employment. Meeting deadlines and compliance standards for these responsibilities is crucial to clients to avoid complex penalties.

The Employment Tax team support our clients with navigating employment tax (ranging from pensions, benefits, expenses) whilst maintaining compliance with legislation. This may include the preparation of employment tax returns such as P11D forms and PAYE Settlement Agreements etc. The senior members of the team will also require your help with employment status queries, expense policies, HMRC compliance reviews among other things. You will also support the wider Blick Rothenberg firm on tax queries related to payroll & benefits.

Expatriate Tax

The Expatriate Tax team support clients with a range of international and domestic financial affairs across the Americas, EMEIA and the Asia Pacific region. This can range from employer services, where you will be supporting an employer that may have an employee working outside of their normal country of employment. These could be employer tax compliance issues, assignment policy and planning or employee services.

As a trainee within the Expatriate Tax team, you will be involved in a broad range of tax projects and provide tax advice and consulting services to clients. You will work as part of a team to advise and guide clients on the planning and implications involved in international assignments and resolving client queries. You will also be responsible for reviewing and preparing tax returns as required.

The Expatriate Tax department have dedicated teams to support employees and businesses from various countries, including China, Germany, the US, France and many more.

This role will start in September 2024.

The role

What does the role entail?

As a Global Mobility trainee, you will work across the following teams which form the wider Global Mobility Team:

Employment Tax

As an assistant, your role will be to support our clients (predominantly small to medium enterprises) with tax responsibilities related to employment. Meeting deadlines and compliance standards for these responsibilities is crucial to clients to avoid complex penalties.

The Employment Tax team support our clients with navigating employment tax (ranging from pensions, benefits, expenses) whilst maintaining compliance with legislation. This may include the preparation of employment tax returns such as P11D forms and PAYE Settlement Agreements etc. The senior members of the team will also require your help with employment status queries, expense policies, HMRC compliance reviews among other things. You will also support the wider Blick Rothenberg firm on tax queries related to payroll & benefits.

Expatriate Tax

The Expatriate Tax team support clients with a range of international and domestic financial affairs across the Americas, EMEIA and the Asia Pacific region. This can range from employer services, where you will be supporting an employer that may have an employee working outside of their normal country of employment. These could be employer tax compliance issues, assignment policy and planning or employee services.

As a trainee within the Expatriate Tax team, you will be involved in a broad range of tax projects and provide tax advice and consulting services to clients. You will work as part of a team to advise and guide clients on the planning and implications involved in international assignments and resolving client queries. You will also be responsible for reviewing and preparing tax returns as required.

The Expatriate Tax department have dedicated teams to support employees and businesses from various countries, including China, Germany, the US, France and many more.

This role will start in September 2024.

Studying for the professional examination

Our trainees attend integrated link courses run by a leading financial training company in London to prepare them for their professional examinations. The courses combine periods of full time study and progress examinations with a home study element. The tutors liaise with us on a regular basis, allowing us to maintain an active interest in performance. Successful candidates will be supported throughout their professional studies towards the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) qualification and achieving Chartered Taxation Advisor (CTA) status.

We pay for all courses, exam fees and study leave for first sittings. The company’s commitment to our graduates’ development shows in the consistently high pass rates our students achieve in the examinations. This is something we are very proud of. Our success lies first in the process of selection and then in providing the best possible tuition, both in practical and theoretical terms.

Academic requirements

  • If you have, or are currently studying towards an undergraduate degree you should have achieved or been on track to achieve a minimum 2:2.
  • You will need the right to work in the UK from your start date.
