UK’s ‘courtship period’ for foreigners announced in the Budget will put off investors
Vanesha Kistoo, Partner and Head of the French Desk said:
As they are a tax break, expat regimes cost money for the Government that provide them.
With this in mind, the UK’s introduction of a ‘courtship period’ for foreigners to experience living in the UK before they commit is fair given the circumstances of the ‘black hole’ in the country’s finances.
Vanesha said:
However, this will inevitably drive long term investors away from the UK as without that tax break, it will be costly for them to ‘try before they buy’.
