Customs Duty alert: HMRC set to replace import/export declarations system

Customs Duty Partner Simon Sutcliffe provides an update on HM Revenue & Customs’ new Customs Declaration Service.

HM Revenue & Customs have announced the closing dates for the use of their Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) system for making import and export declarations and its final and full replacement by the Customs Declaration Service (CDS).

CDS will replace CHIEF for imports on 30 September 2022 and for exports on 31 March 2023.

For those self-declaring or using intermediaries to do so, it is important to now  think about how you and your agents will transition to the new declaration system in the coming 12 months.
