Simon Newark

Simon became partner in the firm in 2018, after ten years in HM Revenue & Customs and 22 years in professional practice. He provides specialist advice on VAT and indirect tax and is respected in his field.

Simon is a Chartered Tax Adviser, a former Chair of the Indirect Tax Sub-Committee of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and is also a former member of the Institute of Indirect Taxation before its merger with the Chartered Institute. He is a Council member of the VAT Practitioners Group and has represented various professional groups on initiatives and consultations with HM Revenue & Customs.

His expertise and knowledge of VAT enables him to advise across a range of business sectors, particularly the property sector, financial services and international trade, where local and international VAT rules already have a huge impact around the world and are growing in complexity. Simon is well placed to assist in avoiding unwelcome enquiries from tax authorities or profits being wiped out by unexpected VAT charges.

Simon presents seminars on a range of VAT issues and has written many articles on the subject over the years. With regulations becoming increasingly more onerous and the tax authorities ever more aggressive in challenging business arrangements, he welcomes questions and enquiries on VAT matters affecting clients and is recognized for his helpful and practical approach to a complex tax.
