With almost 25 years' of experience, Gary started his career as an Inspector of Taxes. Since joining the profession in 1998, he has successfully resolved a wide range of large and complex tax enquires for both business and private clients. Prior to joining Blick Rothenberg in 2015, Gary was at a Big 4 firm in London for over 14 years, specialising in tax dispute resolution.
Gary’s core work is providing strategic advice to businesses and High Net Worth Individuals on managing their interaction with HMRC. His extensive experience of resolving enquiries conducted by HMRC’s Specialist Investigations, Large Business Directorate, Local Compliance (Large & Complex and Small and Medium Businesses) and the High Net Worth Unit means he is well placed to deliver innovative and pragmatic solutions for clients in dispute with HMRC.
Gary’s approach, wherever possible, is to identify opportunities to reach a favourable outcome and more recently he has had considerable experience in the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution (“ADR”) processes. This is both in terms of getting clients into a suitable ADR programme and then successfully leading them through the process to secure favourable outcomes.
Where negotiation proves unfeasible, Gary has developed particular expertise in tax litigation working with leading tax Counsel to support and lead corporate and private clients through every stage of the process, from lodging appeals through to a substantive hearing before the Tax Tribunals.
Gary is married, has two sons and lives in North Bedfordshire where he enjoys watching rugby, walking, cycling, and reading.
