The UK capital’s green economy is booming, currently worth approximately £25.4bn.
This is according to the latest report assessing London’s ‘Low Carbon and Environmental Goods and Services Sector’ (LCEGS), commissioned by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson.
The sector has grown solidly during the downturn and London’s green economy is outperforming the UK’s overall green economy growth. Commenting on the report, Johnson said that the city is ‘becoming the one-stop shop’ for low carbon and environmental services.
London accounts for approximately 20% of the UK’s annual LCEGS sales, and 97% of the carbon finance sub-sector. The report detailing London’s role in LCEGS can be found here.
