Six US technology companies were crowned winners of the GREAT Tech Awards on 9 October 2014. Hosted by the British Consulate General New York and UK Trade & Investment, the awards aim to recognise and help innovative US technology companies looking to expand their business internationally. Winners are provided with key connections and resources to facilitate plans for international growth during a week-long visit to the UK.
The competition is open annually to any US technology company headquartered in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut or Pennsylvania, and last year saw over 120 technology companies apply.
Blick Rothenberg proudly sponsored the GREAT Tech Awards for this second year of its running, and hosted an event in October for the winners and sponsors of the awards. The event included a discussion on the UK start-up scene, a panel discussion about New York start-ups who have expanded to the UK, and a presentation on how to establish a UK entity and the UK’s legal/ tax landscape, presented by Nilesh Shah from Blick Rothenberg and Mark Barron from Taylor Wessing. A final panel discussion chaired by Nilesh Shah was held on understanding the venture capital landscape and available funding opportunities.
